: A Complete Solar Power Solution

The main components of a Solar Power system are the photovoltaic modules (solar panels or tiles) and the inverter. There are three essential rules in selecting these components that must be adhered to:

Completed Installation: the photovoltaic modules MUST be MCS registered to be eligible for payment of the Feed in Tariff.

: the Inverter MUST be G83 certified for connection to the mains electricity supply

: the panels and inverter MUST be matched electrically though not necessarily from the same manufacturer

  • Photovoltaic Modules

Photovoltaic modules convert light energy to electricity. A bewildering number of module manufacturers and technologies are already available in the UK and this number is likely to rise with the introduction of the Feed in Tariff. CentroSolar module

The most common module material is crystaline silicon with significant differences in cost and module efficiency. 'Thin Film' technologies are also available but these products have yet to be MCS Certified.

Modules are available as panels or as tiles. The correct module for your property will be governed by a number of issues including your budget, the space available on your roof, aesthetics and planning considerations

Modules typically have a 5 year product warranty and 10 year and 25 year performance warranties which underlines the need to choose a manufacturer that will be around to honour a 25 year warranty.

  • Grid-Connected Inverter

The inverter converts the DC current from the modules to frequency and phase matched AC current for connection to the mains. Inverters vary in their efficiency and in the functions and accessories they offer.

  • Roof Mounting Systems

A mounting system should be chosen that will safely, securely and discretely attach the panels to the roof. Mountings should be chosen that are designed for use with your tile and roof type and installed to maintaing the waterlightness of the roof.

  • Other Components

Other items including isolation switches, export meter, junction boxes and cabling will be required to complete the system.

The inverter would normally be connected to a spare fuseway in your consumer unit but additional changes may have to be made to the existing installation.

Installing a Solar Power System.

Solar panels are usually mounted on the roof but can be mounted on a side wall or be free standing.

PV layout

The panels are connected to the inverter which is connected to the mains electricity supply.

All very straightforward you would think ...... and it is IF:

: the correct mounting system is chosen for your roof

: a skilled PV designer ensures that the panels are matched with the inverter to optimise the panel and inverter performance and maximise the power produced

: trained experienced roofers provide a secure waterproof installation of the mounting system on your roof

: qualified Solar Power engineers connect and commission the system using the correct cables, isolators and other essential components

: qualifed NICEIC Approved electricans safely connect the system to the mains in accodance with the UK Wiring Regulations and upgrade your electrics if necessay.

This is the service that you will receive from ElectrAssure Solar, a service that will maximise the return on your investment in solar power.
